Dr. Brian Dodge was the recipient of the 2019 LGBTQ+ Spirit Award from the Indiana University LGBTQ+ Culture Center. The award was presented on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the annual Award Ceremony sponsored by the LGBTQ+ Alumni Association.
Dr. Dodge, a proud member of the LGBTQ+ Alumni Association since completing his first IU degree in 1999, expressed deepest appreciation to his award nominators and also to retiring founding director of the former GLBT Student Support Services Office, Doug Bauder. When the two first crossed paths in the late 1990's, Doug had asked Dr. Dodge "what is up with bisexual people and all the glitter?" The response, several decades in the waiting, was a resounding glitter bomb from several participants, including Dr. Debby Herbenick and her very distinguished special guest. Doug Bauder (who is also an ordained minister who has helped countless IU students, faculty and staff during his time as center director) was also presented with an honorary degree from Indiana University.
Overall, a wonderful evening was had by all and we are proud to work at a university that not only recognizes but also celebrates its LGBTQ+ Hoosier faculty, students and staff. Thank you, IU!
