CSHP Doctoral Student Ashley Townes Receives Scholarship from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and Research Grant from The Patty Brisben Foundation

Saturday, March 24, 2018

CSHP second year doctoral student Ashley Townes has been chosen as the 2018 recipient of the AASECT Bill T. Jones Scholarship!

Bill T. Jones is an internationally acclaimed dancer, director, writer, and choreographer. His work has collided with, and challenged, gender roles, violence, love, war, illness, HIV, survival, strength, sexuality, and eroticism. The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) honors Bill’s fierce passion by funding a scholarship in his name, to encourage and nurture diversity within AASECT.  This is the tenth and final year for the Bill T. Jones Scholarship. The presentation of the awards and scholarships will take place during the AASECT Awards Luncheon at the Annual Conference in Denver on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Additionally, Ashley's recent grant proposal, "African American Women's Sexual Lives: Translating New Research into Education" was funded by The Patty Brisben Foundation for Women's Sexual Health in the full amount requested of $8000. There is a significant gap in both research and sexuality education materials that accurately reflect African American women's sexual lives. We are excited to help address these gaps, and the proposed work is consistent with Ashely's doctoral research trajectory.

Congratulations, Ashley!
